I have an awesome daughter. I have mentioned it to her repeatedly that I only needed one because she was perfect :) When friends of mine are going to have a baby, I always wish for them a child like Sarah. She is calm (except when's she being "tortured" by her brothers), she is happy, she is kind. She loves kids. She has a great sense of humor. She love to just hang out with her family and she's self-motivated. It's this last wonderful attribute I'll expand on.My daughter rarely has homework. The reason behind this phenomenon is that she gets it done at school! Whenever she has something big that's due, that she has to do at home, she usually does it Friday night (unless she's babysitting) so that she has the rest of the weekend off. My girl thinks ahead.
Sarah also takes piano lessons. She didn't start until this year, and that was due to me waiting to see if she really meant it. Well she did. She does her practicing just about everyday without me having to nag her (she's a great example for her little brother). She loves to play the piano. Honestly sometimes we have to tell her to stop, just to give our ears a break. She's becoming a great pianist.
As a YW, she has dilige
ntly worked towards her goal of receiving her YW Award and Medallion. I know a lot of mothers who have to pull teeth to get their daughter to work on it. I barely had to say a word. She has fantastic leaders who motivated her, and once she made the choice, nothing stood in her way! She did a lot of service hours in babysitting, she went to the temple regularly, she memorized The Living Christ and read the entire Book of Mormon. And like I said, all with hardly a word from me! I just helped her when she needed it.
Tonight our stake held Young Women in Excellence, and at this meeting Sarah's goals we're achieved. She received her medallion from our Stake YW President, and she was the only girl in our stake to do this. It was pretty cool. Sister Mary Cook, the 1st Counselor in the General Young Women's Presidency was at the meeting as well as the keynote speaker. It was awesome to have Sister Cook there to give Sarah a big hug and congratulate her. It's not something any of us will ever forget.
"Give me a young woman who loves home and family, who reads and ponders the scriptures daily, who has burning testimony of the Book of Mormon. Give me young woman who faithfully attends her church meetings, who is a seminary graduate, who has earned her Young Womanhood Recognition Award and wears it with pride! Give me a young woman who is virtuous and who has maintained her personal purity, who will not settle for less than a temple marriage, and I will give you a young woman who will perform miracles for the Lord now and throughout eternity"
